Reuben T. Markham, well-known Conway man, appears to have met with more than his share of misfortune ever since he lost his arm in a railway accident many years ago. Mr. Markham is recovering from accidental food poisoning. Markham was canvassing in a rural district near Griffithville, White County, when a farmer invited four men in a store to join him at his home for dinner. Seeing Markham would be left, the farmer insisted on his coming too, and he accepted. Before the meal was over, the guests and family members began to become ill. Physicians were called. Later, all the food items were examined and it was discovered that a small sack of calcium arsenate used for poisoning insects had been set on a shelf in the kitchen and had fallen into the flour barrel. The flour had been used for the bread the group ate. Mr. Markham has not been able to return to Conway at this time.
