When Marietta Bowman was born on April 20, 1836, in Millerstown, Kentucky, her father, William, was 26 and her mother, Elizabeth, was 19. She married Jesse Moorman Herndon on May 11, 1856, in Meade County, Kentucky. They had five children in 21 years. She died on July 25, 1917, in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 81.
