John William Shay was born in Taswell Co., Ill. Dec. 11, 1861 and moved with his father's family to Benton Co., Ark. Was married to Miss Rachel Fox Dec. 1, 1889. To this union was born seven children, 3 boys and four girls, six of whom, with his wife, survive him. He died at his home near Gentry, Benton Co., Ark. April 10, 1914 at the age of 52 years, 3 months and 29 days. He professed religion in 1890. He never attached himself to any denomination but lived an exemplary life and was a true and devoted husband and father. He leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
