Oak Grove (Historic), Conway Cemetery
Faulkner County,
Arkansas

Jan 31, 1863 - Aug 11, 1930

Benjamin L. Harton, 67, president of the Faulkner County Bank & Trust Co. and one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of Conway, died at his home on Robinson Avenue this morning after a brief illness of pneumonia. When Mr. Harton was taken ill on Tuesday, it was regarded as a serious illness. On Saturday, when his youngest son, Benja L. Harton was married, it was thought Mr. Harton was improving. The infection, which had spread had been confined to one lung, spread to the second lung Sunday and his condition rapidly grew worse until the end. Mr. Harton was born in Quitman and attended Quitman College. His business career began as a salesman in a general store at Springfield. He came to Conway in 1884 to take a position in the general store of Martin & Harton. He served as bookkeeper in the store for 19 years. In 1903 he became cashier of the Faulkner County Bank, of which the late Capt. W. W. Martin was president. Upon the death of Captain Martin in 1911, Harton was elevated to the presidency of the bank, a position which he actively and devotedly administered until he was taken ill last week. Survivors were his wife, two sons, three daughters and seven grandchildren.
