Dr. P.A. Johnson died recently at his home in Oxford Bend of kidney trouble after an illness of several days. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Son's Chapel, services being conducted by Eld. Edward Hale of this place and Eld. J.L. Pinkerton. The funeral was attended by the largest crowd ever seen at a similar gathering in that section which shows the marked esteem in which the deceased was held by his friends and neighbors. Dr. Johnson was a native of North Carolina, being born in Guilford County April 5, 1829. He remained on the farm with his parents until grown, receiving a common school education. Later he went to Missouri and attended Chapel Hill College, in Lafayette County, for three years, afterwards teaching school and reading medicine. In 1865 he located in Jackson County, Ark. and after residing there for three years came to Washington County which has since been his home. September 22, 1858 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth R. Stark, a native of Illinois. They were the parents of some ten children, three of whom are dead. Dr. Johnson was a successful and highly respected citizen, owning one of the best farms in the county and had many friends. He was a member of the Christian Church.
