An announcement was made in the Little Rock newspaper by Mr. and Mrs. Caughey E. Hayes of the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Catherine, to Samuel Theodore Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Smith of Conway. The ceremony will be solemnized May 6. The bride-elect is one of the season's debutantes at Little Rock, and is a member of a family well known in Conway. Mr. Hayes has served as a Hendrix trustee. Mr. Smith received his education at Culver, Hendrix and University of Illinois, and during the World War served with distinction as first lieutenant of the Sixth Field Artillery, one of the first American Units in action. He received decorations from the American and French governments for gallantry in the Argonne battle in which he was wounded. He is a valued officer of numerous Conway businesses, financial and civic organizations.
