W.H. Benson of Goshen, known to friends and neighbors as "Uncle Bill," passed away at his home Wednesday morning at sunrise, after a long illness. His condition had not been serious until Monday night when he was taken ill with pneumonia.

He leaves surviving him his wife, Mrs. Julia E. Benson, and nine sons and daughters; George Benson, Mrs. Lola Sawyer, Mrs. Freeman Boatright, Mrs. Roy Glaze, Clyde Benson, Mrs. Randall Harbison, Lynn Benson, Bill Benson and Wood Benson; and the following grandchildren: June Sawyer, Gene Glaze, Bud Glaze, Grace Glaze, Kathleen Glaze, Betty Joe Glaze, Ruth Boatright and Beth Boatright.

All of his children but three sons were at home at the time of his death, absent being Clyde, Bill and Wood Benson, the former being in the southern part of the state could not be reached. Bill and Wood Benson both are in Fullerton, Calif.

Funeral services were conducted at the home near Goshen, at 2 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. Fred Logue, Clay Clark being in charge of arrangements. The body was laid to rest in the Goshen cemetery.

Pallbearers were six of his nephews; Julius Burson, Bill Burson, D.A. (Slim) Burson, George Burson, Jess Neill and Elmer Chitester.

Mr. Benson was 78 years of age at the time of his death and had spent practically all his life in Washington county, and almost 50 years on the farm where he died. A large crowd of relatives and friends were gathered at his home to pay their last respects.

Mrs. Julia Benson, 81, died Tuesday night in the Elizabeth Hospital at Prairie Grove, following an illness of two months. She was born at Goshen, December 5, 1871, the daughter of Dr. Jesse Kelly and Elizabeth Ann Richards Kelly, and spent her life time in that community. She was the widow of the late William Harrison Benton who died in 1937.

Survivors include five daughters, Miss Lynn Benton of the home, Mrs. Lola Sawyer and Mrs. W.F. Boatright, both of Elkins, Mrs. Roy Glaze, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Randall Harbison of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sons, Clyde and Woodrow Benson of Elkins, and Bill Benson of Spiro, Okla.; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives in the community.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. by Rev. Paul Watson of Springdale, in the Methodist Church at Goshen. Burial will be in the Goshen cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral home at Huntsville.

Pallbearers will be members of the Forest Service.
