Mrs. Violet Walker Courtney, 92, of Benton, formerly of Conway, died Tuesday (Dec. 12, 2000) at her home.

Born Feb. 5, 1908, in Goreville, Ill., daughter of the late McClellan and Minta Frances Craig Walker, she was a homemaker and a teacher.

She received her bachelor of science in education degree in 1962 from the University of Central Arkansas. While in Conway, she was a member of the Garden Club and First United Methodist Church. She taught at Picacho Elementary School in Arizona until retiring in 1975. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eloy, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Ethridge "Jack" Courtney; two brothers, McClellan Walker Jr. and Kendall Walker; and a sister, Vivian DuPuy.

Survivors are a son, Ron Courtney of Benton; a daughter, Kathleen Oates of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton with Mrs. Courtney's grandson, the Rev. Kevin Courtney, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International or a charity of the donor's choice.
