Jan 22, 1920 - Dec 25, 2010
Rubye Lea
Aug 15, 1924 - Apr 10, 2005

Reverend Geraldee (Johnny) Cardin passed away at Fort Roots Veterans Hospital, December 25, 2010, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruby Lea DeBerry Cardin in 2005, and a daughter Sarah Lee Cardin in 1958. He was born January 22, 1920 in Greenbrier, to the late Jerry and Maude Cardin. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Charlie, Dennis, Willie and Russell; and three sisters Ida, Bonnie and Grace.

He is survived by daughter, Janie Carpenter of Conway, her daughters Lindsey of Virginia, her son Alban; and Brittany of Tennessee; daughter Lynn Cardin of Bryant and her son Alexander; son Mark Cardin, his son Cole, and his daughter Madison of Florida; and a sister, Lorene of West Virginia.

He graduated from Greenbrier High School, served in the Army Air Corp in World War II with the 380th Bombardment group where he was a Tech Sergeant and aviation instructor at Chanute Field in Kansas, and Harvard University. He served a long mission in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater of the war, being stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa.

He was ordained a Baptist Minister in 1950, was a graduate of Jacksonville Baptist College in Jacksonville, Texas. He pastored several churches in Faulkner County including Barney, Bethlehem and Pleasant Valley, as well as in Florida.

He mortgaged the family home in 1952 to buy the concrete blocks to build the original building for Central Baptist Church. He was the first full time pastor of Central and has been a member of Central since 1974.

He had three things he loved dearly in his life: his family, his church, and his garden. He never missed an opportunity to talk about his Savior, and hardly ever missed a service when the doors of the church were open. He never met a stranger anywhere he went, and laughed and joked throughout his days on this earth. He was beloved and will be sorely missed by his children, family and friends. But those that know and love him also know that a great reunion is now taking place and that he has gone on to take a seat in a better place at the table of his Lord.

Family visitation will be Monday, December 27, 2010, 6:00-7:30pm, the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel (501)327-7727. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 2:00pm at Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Rubye Lea DeBerry Cardin, 80, of Conway, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005, at home.

She was born August 15, 1924 in Conway to the late Sarah Fanny Deberry and Will DeBerry. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sarah L. Cardin and four siblings.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Rev. G.D. Cardin of Conway; two daughters, Janie Carpenter of Conway and Lynn Cardin of Little Rock; one son, Mark Cardin of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, Lindsey Cuba and husband Joe of Lemoore, CA, Brittany Carpenter of Conway, Alex Cardin of Little Rock, Cole and Madison Cardin of Orlando; one great-grandchild, Alban Cuba of Lemoore; one sister, Mary F. "Doodle" Watts of Conway; and many other family members and friends.

Rubye worked most of her life around the field of medicine and enjoyed seeing the public in those jobs everyday. She also loved to be involved in adoption causes because three of her most precious gifts in her life were her grandchildren that were adopted. She considered each one a special hand-delivered gift from God. Rubye loved and adored all of her children and family and was the centerpiece of their lives. Death may part us from her body but her love and soul will carry on.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with Bro. Jack Bloxom officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

There will be a general visitation at the funeral home.
