James Oscar Hefley, Sr., 85, of Conway, died Wednesday (June 28, 2006) at his home.
He was born March 21, 1921, in Helena, Ark., to the late Leland and Delia (Rayburn) Hefley.
Mr. Hefley retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a lead bomber pilot during WWII. He was also a retired salesman from the Purex Corporation. He once served as Conway City Treasurer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golf, and loved to travel and drink coffee at Ed's Bakery.
Mr. Hefley is preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve "Viva" Herring Hefley and a brother, Leland Clark Hefley, Jr.
He is survived by son, James O. Hefley, Jr. and wife, Lorna, of Rison and daughter Mary Ellen Wilber and husband, Put, of Cotter; four grandchildren, Clint Fulmer, Trey Hefley, Megan Hefley, and Nicholas Hefley; and one great-grandchild, Dustyn Bundrick.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway, officiated by Brian Kingston.
Pallbearers will be Trey Hefley, Nick Hefley, Corey Throneberry, Dr. Bart Throneberry, Clint Fulmer and Dustyn Bundrick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home Care of Conway, 821A North Creek Drive, Conway, AR 72032, or to a charity of your choice.
