SPRINGDALE — Riley Elliot Reed, 97, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Oct. 13, 2015, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Fayette, Mo., to Joe Riley and Stella Blanche Hawkins Reed.

Riley was a 1937 graduate of Okmulgee High School. He moved to Springdale in 1938 where he worked with his father at Joe Reed's Service Station on Highway 71.

Riley was inducted into the United States Air Force in 1942 and honorably discharged in 1946. His tour
of duty included France, England and Germany. He started his 35 year career as a carrier with the United States Postal Service retiring in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. Hayes Reed; his son, Joe Alan Reed; two sisters, Rose Elma Maeder and Marie Addington. Riley is survived by his companion, Nina R. Langham of the home and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be at the Friendship Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 2 p.m. Pastor Darrell Hollaway will officiate the service.
