Evelyn Marie Haydon Owen, 84, of Conway, AR died Christmas Day, 2009 at Conway Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 11, 1925 in Perry, AR to Elsie Maude Thompson Haydon and Austin Roy Haydon. She was the youngest of 4 children and therefore was called "Baby" for most of her life, becoming Aunt Baby to her numerous nieces and nephews. The Haydon family lived in various locations in Perry and Pulaski Counties as her father established sawmills. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Joe T. Robinson High School.
She married Donald R. Owen, Sr on January 25, 1945 and they lived in Little Rock and later moved to Camp Robinson while Donald served in the Arkansas National Guard. They had four children and she was active as a Cub Scout and Brownie Scout leader, room mother, shuttling kids to band practice, ball games, Rainbow meetings and church. In later years, her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Amy was the first, then Daniel and Zach and Josh. Several years later came the twins Kate and Angela. Grandmom and Grandad absolutely doted on all of them. Amy's first child Hannah couldn't pronounce their names so she dubbed them Dad-O and Mom-O.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, by her husband Don in 1995, son Alan in 1996 and son Don Jr, in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Mildred Eagle, Bob Haydon and Royce Van Dalsem. Royce died just 2 days before Evelyn, on December 23.
She is survived by daughters Mary Anne Parsley and husband Sonny, whom she loved like a son, and Farrell Langley, all of Conway.
She is also survived by grandchildren and great grands Amy Robinson and husband Ben and children Hannah, Sam and Elizabeth of Dacula, GA; Daniel Roberts of Conway, AR; Zach Owen and wife Stephanie and children Jaxen, Mason, Megan and Madi; Josh Owen and wife Suzanne and children Logan and Landon, all of Benton, AR; and Kate and Angela Owen of San Marcos, TX. She is also survived by the Haydon Wimmen comprised of sister-in-law Jennalee Haydon, nieces Rochelle Hinkson, Susie Johnston, Mimi Tarvin and Carol Allen as well as Mary Anne and Farrell. Evelyn was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway and had a strong abiding faith in God. She will always be remembered for her delicious home-made bread, in addition to being a wonderful mother, sister and Mom-O. Please consider a memorial in her memory to Woodland Heights Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Oak Grove Cemetery, with Bro. David Hatfield officiating.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Dr., Conway, AR 72034
