Clifford Lee Horton, 80, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 26, at home. He was born October 30, 1928, in Marshall, Arkansas, the son of the late Bert and Veda Horton.

Cliff obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree at the University of Arkansas. While attending the University, he was a three-year basketball letterman and a member of the Southwest Conference Championship team in 1949.
Cliff spent 9 years coaching high school basketball at St. Joe, Waldo, Crossett, and Pine Bluff. He was selected by his peers to coach in the Arkansas High School All Star basketball game. He was basketball coach fourteen years and athletic director for ten years at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. In 2003, Cliff was inducted into the UCA Sports Hall of Fame.

Cliff served as president of the Conway Rotary Club, District Governor of Rotary International District 617; he was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He served on the board of directors of the Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the board of Garland County Industrial Development Commission., Miss Arkansas Board of Directors, and president of the Arkansas Mover's Association. He was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the administrative Board of Stewards.

Cliff is survived by his wife of sixty years, Bobbie Reese Horton, two daughters, Linda Diane Smith and husband Kenny of Conway, Karen Lee Atnip and husband Larry of Rowlett, Texas. Pepaw was extremely proud of his grandchildren Preston Lee and Margaret Michelle Smith of Conway of and Shelby Lee and Dalton Horton Atnip of Rowlett, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30, Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with Reverend Jim Benfer officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Pate, Bill Sorrells, Mike Bush, George Jones, Rick Pruitt, and Leonard Dunn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Farris, Bob Wheeler, Elizabeth Farris Sorrells, Vance Strange, Dorothy Starkey, Bill Stephens, Cliff Garrison, Douglas Reese, Bill Nutter, Frank Dolan, Bill Boyer, Jim Gadberry, and Charles Wiggins, Sam Wilson and Sunny Parks.

Memorials may be made to the Coach and Bobbie Horton Scholarship Endowment (made possible by five members of Coach Horton's Crossett basketball team), Crossett Community Scholarship Association, 101 W. First Avenue, Crossett, AR 71635 or First United Methodist Church, 1100 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71901.
