Mrs W. W. Copeland Burned To Death
Mrs W. W. "Jeanette" Copeland, 75 of Melbourne, died Thanksgiving morning, November 26 from burns she received when her clothing caught fire. She was alone in the house at the time. She was found lying in the street in front of her house by Raybourne Stroud and John Binllingsley. Dr. Harold Tatum pronounced her dead at the scene. Mrs Copeland and her son, Monroe, occupied the home. The house was not damaged. A freshly baked cake was found near the wood stove which she used for cooking.
Mrs Copeland was born at Twin Creek. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs Copeland was predeceased by her husband who was widely known in Arkansas politically.
She is survived by four sons, Jeff, Monroe and John all of Melbourne and Bill Copeland of Los Angeles, Calif..; two daughters, Mrs Cassie McCuiston, Wenatchee, Wash., and Mrs Capitola Smith of Melbourne; four sisters, Mrs Maretta (sp) Jeffery of Wichita, Kan., Mrs Mary Copeland of Calico Rock, Ark. Mrs Lizzie Watson of Melbourne and Mrs Lou Sanders, Dolph, Ark.; three brothers, Ed Gillihan of Batesville, Ark., Glem Gillihan of Melbourne and Eller Gillihan of Twin Creek. She also leaves nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Melbourne Cemetery under direction of the Crouch Funeral Home.
