Cecil Sylvester Eaton, Sr

Cecil S. Eaton, Jr., known as "Junior" or "JR", passed into eternity Thursday morning in his home in Batesville with loving family at his bedside.

Cecil, Jr. grew up in the Knobel area where he graduated from high school in 1943. He attended Arkansas State College in Jonesboro, in 1944. He was in the Merchant Marines and later in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.

He married Anna Bartlett, July 28. 1945 in First Baptist Church in Corning, by the late Dr. J. S. Compere. Cecil and Anna adopted their daughter, Charlotte Jean in 1952, as their very own daughter, when she was two years old. Cecil accepted Christ into his life in 1946 in Corning and was baptized. At the time of his death he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Batesville.

He was involved with his father and brother in farming near Knobel for many years. Later he and his wife, Anna, owned and operated a successful real estate business, first in West Memphis and later in Corning, since 1976 until retirement.

They moved to Batesville from Corning in 1999. Cecil continued to have a great interest in farming and real estate until his passing. He was in awe at the many changes that had taken place especially in farming down through the years, much different than in the days he farmed. He was always interested in the younger generation of farmers and their knowledge and techniques. Cecil loved people and loved to talk farming and real estate when the opportunity afforded him. He had many friends throughout the country and was well respected in his real estate dealings as being "fair minded and trustworthy." He was a retired real estate broker.

Visitation was Friday evening in Ermert Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning, at 10:30, February 21, 2004 in Ermert Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in Corning Cemetery.

A memorial service was held in First Baptist Church, Batesville, at 2 o'clock, Sunday afternoon, February 22, 2004.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital, Little Rock, Children's Home in Paragould, Hospice, Inc., or one's choice.

Obituary provided through Ermert Funeral Home Corning, Clay County, Arkansas published 2004.
