Thomas McAdams Cannon was born in Walker Co., Ga. Aug. 6th, 1846 and died at Springdale Feb. 9th, 1910. He came with his parents at the age of 13 to Arkansas and settled near Goshen and has been a citizen of Washington County ever since. During the war he fought in the Confederate army. Was a soldier in Borrk's regiment. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary C. Neill who survives him. To this union eight children were born, two died in infancy. Five girls and one boy are all here to mourn their irreparable loss. Mrs. Jennie Phillips, Mrs. Wm. Sherman, Mrs. H.H. Sanders, Mrs. W.F. Sanders, Mrs. J.L. Clyne and Jesse Cannon. Deceased has one brother and four sisters living. He was for the past 24 or 25 years a faithful member of the Masonic fraternity. When a young man he was converted, united with the Missionary Baptist church, but last year joined the M.E. Church, South, the church to which his immediate family belongs. He left his home at Goshen the day before the date of his death to take a different course of treatment. Took supper at the home of H.H. Sanders, his son-in-law, and talked with the family and uncle, Anderson Sanders, till about 9 p.m. and died at 3 a.m. Although he had been in very poor health for the past few months his death came as a shock to his family and friends. Mrs. J.C. Mc_ of K.C., his oldest grand-daughter arrived just before they started to the cemetery but her brother, Ulmond Phillips, received the sad and unexpected news in a letter. Since his death there is a gloom over the little cottage he once called home that time never can dispel. May heaven's richest blessings rest on the bereaved family is our earnest prayer. J.F. Thornsberry, Pastor.
