MELBOURNE — John Snethen, 88, of Melbourne died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at his home.
Born Aug. 25, 1923, in Fairfield, Ill., he was the son of William E. and Lucy Goleaner Snethen.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands and occupied Japan during World War II. He worked as a master electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was united in marriage to Belva Lee Hungate. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Melbourne First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Franklin of Portage, Ind., and Bradley Snethen of Princeton, Ill.; three daughters, Barbara Harguess of Walnut Ridge, Judy Hunt of Michigan City, Ind., and Patsy Warnke of Hardy; a brother, Roy Snethen of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Betty Anthony of Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Melbourne with Rick Burke officiating. Burial was in Caney Springs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers were John Harguess, Trey Harguess, George Harguess, Danny Franklin, Shane Linn and Mark Herrington.
