Joseph R. Holt, 72, of Bella Vista, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 1994, at Springdale Memorial Hospital following surgery. Born June 17, 1921, at Ellsworth, Kan., the son of Roscoe and Frankie Holt, he attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and earned a B.A. degree. He attended midshipmen's school at Notre Dame University and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He served aboard an AKA din the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946, earning the rank of lieutenant. He worked with Interstate Brands Baking Company in Kansas City for 19 years and Metz Baking Company in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was vice president of purchasing. He was an elder and trustee in the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Sioux City Airport Board. He retired to Bella Vista in 1986. He was an elder and chairman of the long range planning board and chairman of the assimilation committee of the Community Church.

Survivors are his wife, Betty Rowton Holt, of the home; one son, David Holt of Parkville, Mo.; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Schwartz of Northbrook, Ill. and four grandsons.

Funeral is tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Community Church. Burial will be at the Bella Vista Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Community Church organ fund or the Bella Vista Library. Arrangements are under the direction of Callison-Lough Funeral Service of Bentonville.
