CORNING — Sol M. Garrett, Jr., 85, died Feb. 18, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Mr. Garrett was retired from Polk Chevrolet where he worked as a parts department manager and a wrecker operator. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning.

On Dec. 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Minnie Louise Ahrent Garrett. She preceded him in death Jan. 28, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Sol Martin Garrett III of Bella Vista; three daughters, Judy Duffel of Mabelvale, Mary Wiedeman and Louise Coleman, both of Corning; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sol and Minnie Frances Garrett; his wife, Minnie Louise Garrett; brother, Elmo Garrett; and granddaughter, Tina Louise Woods.

Visitation will be this evening from 5-7 at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.

Service will be at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Jon C. Bischof officiating. Burial will be in Corning Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 501 North Missouri Ave., Corning, 72422.

Minnie Louise Garrett, 77, of Corning, Ark., died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Clay Healthcare Center. Born in Corning, she was a bookkeeper at Polk Chevrolet and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning.

Survivors include her husband, S.M. Garrett Jr. of the home; one son, Sol Martin Garrett III of Bella Vista; three daughters, Judy Duffel of Little Rock, Louise Coleman and Mary Wiedeman, both of Corning; one brother, Walter Ahrent of Corning; one sister, Mildred Rigdon of Corning; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Willis Jenson officiating. Burial will be in Corning Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
