Manuel James of Springfield, Mo.

Howard Emanuel James, 96, of Springfield, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 while stayin in the Hiram Shaddox Senior Center in Mountain Home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Rush, the third son of the late Jesse and Audra (Medley) James. James was a member of the Orchard Crest Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo. He retired from a career as draftsman for dam construction. He served his country during World War II as an Army scout for the 80th Infantry Division under the command of General George Patton during the east European campaign. We was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and gardening. He was happiest when with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. James was united in marriage to Vera (Parnell) James in 1941. They had two sons, Donald and Jerry, all there preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Bunice (Salchow) James of the home; a stepson, Jim Salchow of Billings, Mo.; daughters-in-law, Beverly James of Yellville and Peggy James of Green Forest; grandchildren, Melanie (James) Paden and husband Mark of Mountain Home, Marla (James) Ott and husband Ty of Springdale, Lise (James) Liles and husband Brian of Texarkana, and Bobby James and wife Tiffany of Green Forest; seven great-grandchildren, Callie Paden, Bailey and Abbey Ott, Reese and Brooklynn James and Brock and Blake Liles, several niece and nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at Pleasant Ridge Church in Yellville. James' nephews, Fred Goodall and son Kent, officiated.

Casketbearers were Bobby James, Ty Ott, Marla Ott, Melanie Paden, Mark Paden and Brian Liles. Interment followed in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Yellville under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.
