James Edward Ramsey, son of the late Samuel Nelson Ramsey and Emma Herron Ramsey, was born March 28, 1930 in Violet Hill, Arkansas. He departed this life October 5, 2014 at his home in Henderson, Arkansas at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 7 days. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Wilma June Gillihan on June 22, 1956 in Melbourne, Arkansas. He spent his life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, provider and friend. During his working years, he worked in construction, operating and repairing heavy equipment.
He survived by his wife of 58 years: Wilma June Ramsey of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law: Janice Reed and Karen and Tommy Walker, Sr all of Henderson; three grandsons: Rick Ramsey, Jamie Ramsey and Shannon Swink; three step grandchildren: Tammy Barnes, Tommy Walker, Jr and Tim Walker; several great grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Ina Ramsey; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: David Ramsey and W. A. “Dub” Ramsey.
Graveside funeral service will be Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 8 beginning at 12 noon.
Pallbearers: Rick Ramsey, Jamie Ramsey, Shannon Swink, Devin Ramsey, Tim Walker and Tommy Walker, III.
Honorary Pallbearers: Charlie Lamb, Burton Lamb, Nevin Barnes, Charlie Hickman, Claude Reed, Michael Brackett, Bob Ramsey and Tommy Walker, Jr.
