Alberta Marie Smith Gilson, daughter of the late Robert Smith ans Mattie Pearl Gordon Smith, was born February 24, 1915 in Memphis, Tennessee. She departed this life December 1, 2015 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 100 years, 9 months and 7days. In 1930 she was united in marriage to J. C. “Pete” Gilson in Mumford, Tennessee and to this union one son was born. She spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. During her working years, she had many occupations including working in a shipyard and the Shirt Factory in Gassville. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by one granddaughter: Bobbi Willis of Melbourne; one great grandson: Justin Bishop of Fountain, Colorado and one great great granddaughter: Kiara Bishop of Lincoln, Arkansas and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son: Robert Gilson; two brothers: Houston Smith and Russell Wiseman and six sisters: Helen Lindsey, Lillian Stannick, Leonia Lloyd, Virginia Robertson, Ester Rossier and Ruth Wiseman.
Graveside funeral service will be Friday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
