GADBERRY, Sophia Caroline PHILLIPS January - Sophia C. Gadberry, age 89 years, passed away March 18th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ben Medley, in Cherokee. Funeral services were held at 2:30 March 19th with burial in the Bloomfield cemetery.

(from Chamberlain) Many hearts were saddened Friday morning to hear of the death of grandma Gadberry at Cherokee City. Mrs. Gadberry had recently been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Cora Welch, near Chamberlain. She has a host of friends and relatives here who deeply mourn her passing.

Sophia Caroline, daughter of Calvin C. and Nancy Phillips, was born September 16, 1843 near Decatur, Arkansas and departed from this world at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.B. Medley, near Cherokee City, Arkansas March 24, 1933 at 10 o'clock at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 8 days. She was united in marriage to Joseph C. January of the Decatur community. To this union were born two children, Wm. A. and Joseph Calvin. The husband and father answered the call of the South and enlisted in the Confederate army. In 1867 Mrs. January was united in marriage to Wm. Gadberry of Bloomfield, Arkansas. To this union were born six children, one of which died in infancy. Preceding the mother were: the husband, Wm. Gadberry, and three of the sons, Wm. A. January, John H. and Isaac J. January[Gadberry?). During her young womanhood the deceased professed faith in her Savior and united with the old Christian Union church of the community where she lived, remaining a faithful christian throughout her long and useful life. Her last years were spent quietly in the homes of her children where she bore her burden of blindness without complaint.
