Lyndall Sigsby Hardin, of Jonesboro, was born in Rector on October 15, 1924. Lyndall was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Max Hardin who passed away on February 17, 2015; her parents, Bert and Vesta Sigsby; her sister, Oneida Tull, and her brother, Bert E. Sigsby.
Lyndall considered Max the love of her life. They were united in marriage of May 15, 1946, shortly after Max returned from serving in the Coast Guard during World War II.
Lyndall took great joy in her family. She is survived by two sons, Larry Hardin and wife Ouida; Greg Hardin and wife Elizabeth all of Jonesboro; daughter Teresa Hardin Mitchell and husband Terry of Texarkana Texas; six grandchildren, Stephanie Roemer and Lori Thornton, both of Frisco, Texas; Brooke Griffin and husband Shelby of Jonesboro; Nicole Johnson and husband, Travis of Newburg, Kentucky; Jonathan Trickey and his wife Amber of Washington, DC and Bradley Trickey of Houston, Texas; six great grandsons, Jackson and Wyatt Vauthier; Aidan & Christopher Thornton; Austin and Kellen Johnson; two sisters, Mrs. Janelle Viertel of Bonneville, Missouri; and Mrs. Glenna Bookout of Rector; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Lyndall graduated at an early age from Rector High School and attended Ouachita Baptist Collage where she was a member of the choir. At the age of seventeen she returned to the Rector community after a year at OBU and taught in a one-room school at Lone Holly School in Clay County. She also worked in banking at the Bank of Rector and W.B. Worthen Bank in Little Rock. She later assisted Max in two business ventures in Joneboro. Lyndall and Max owned and operated the Tastee Freeze on Nettleton Avenue and then founded the Totem Pole Restaurant on Johnson which was the first sandwich shop near the campus of Arkansas State University.
Music was a very important part of Lyndall’s life. She was a noted soprano soloist in the Jonesboro community and was often called on to share her gift with others. She took great joy in praising her Lord Jesus Christ for over 61 years in the Sanctuary Choir at Jonesboro First Baptist Church where she was honored for her long service to the choir. Lyndall was an active member of the Treble Clef Music Club for 26 years, where she served as president and she was in the community chorus.
In addition to being an outstanding musician, Lyndall was a ceramic and porcelain china artist as well as a gifted painter of oils. Her extraordinary works can be found in homes through Jonesboro and beyond. Lyndall was a member of the Dogwood China Club, and she served as the 1993 State President of the Arkansas Federation of Porcelain Artists. Lyndall taught porcelain painting and ceramics to countless students in her home studio which included five kilns where she poured and fired porcelain.
Lyndall joined Jonesboro First Baptist Church shortly after the end of World War II when she and Max moved to Jonesboro and lived on the ASU campus. She continued to serve faithfully throughout the years until her health declined and she could no longer be actively involved in the choir and her Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Kathy Holler officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A 1:00 committal service will be at Woodland Heights in Rector on Saturday. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time on Saturday.
