Ermert Funeral Home Coring, Arkansas
Rev. J D Leonard Passmore, 80, of Corning, AR., Passed away Saturday, March 19 2011 at Corning Therapy and Living Center. Rev. Passmore was born April 20, 1930 in Oxley, AR., to Orvil and Cora (Wallis) Passmore. He is survived by his wife Helen (Holland) Passmore of Corning, AR.; two daughters Margaret and husband Steve Bailey of Earle, AR., Paula and husband Rick Rush of Corning, AR.; two sons Jay Dee Passmare and wife Debbie of Enola, AR., Tim Passmore and wife Becky of Center TX.; three sisters Shirley and husband James Wells of Osceola, AR., Wanda and husband Harold Tesreau of Fredericktown, MO., Freda and husband Bill Freeman of Conway, AR.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Leslie High School, Leslie, AR., and the University of Central Arkansas, Conway, AR. He also attended Ouachita Baptist University, Central Washington State College, and Southwestern Baptist Seminary. He taught school in both Arkansas and Washington. He pastored churches in Alabama, Washington and Arkansas, including Calvary Baptist and Hopewell Baptist Churches in Corning, AR. He served as Director of Missions in Missouri, Arkansas and for the North-West Baptist Convention. He made three overseas missions trips, two trips to New Zealand and one to the Philippines.
He was united in marriage to Helen (Holland) Passmore on April 8, 1950. He Enjoyed Reading, Fishing, Golf, Wood Working, Gardening and Writing. In fact he wrote several poems and two books, one fiction based on facts about his ancestry, the other is an autobiography of his early years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Orvil and Cora (Wallis) Passmore, his step-mother Maxine (Morrison) Passmore and a sister Ellen Stephenson.
Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Bailey officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery. Public visitation will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the Gideons International or to Hopewell Baptist Church.
