John "Johnnie" C Lakey the son of John H Lakey and Dixie (Cook) Lakey. Mary Mable (Webb) Lakey the daughter of George W. Webb and Minnie (Getz) Webb.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- John C. Lakey, 80, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Lake City, died Monday, Aug. 4.

Born near Sedgwick, he was a 1943 graduate of Dixie High School, served in the Army Air Corps and retired in 1983 as a manager of the Continental Airlines station in Phoenix. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Lake City.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lakey of the home; two sons, Brian Lakey of the home and David Lakey of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Gussie Dillon of Tampa, Fla., and Dovie Gipson and Rachel Pack, both of Lake City; and a granddaughter, Megan Lakey of Grand Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Dixie Cook Lakey.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Lake City, with Scott Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Old Military Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Anderson, Bud Manis, Benny Martin, Harvey Thompson, Roy Pack and Kenneth Winford.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home in Lake City.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

Mary Mable Lakey, 81, passed away July 23 at Grand Rapids, Mich.

Mrs. Lakey was married to John Lakey in 1947 and lived in Lake City from 1983 to 2003. John Lakey passed away in 2003.

The daughter of George Webb and Minnie Getz, Mrs. Lakey was a homemaker, raised two sons and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City.

Interment was in the Old Military Cemetery.
