Obituary:
Agnes Evelyn Nilson was born in Union County, South Dakota, on July 22, 1921, daughter of Slayton Newman and Delma Daisy (Blackwell) Newman. She departed this life Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at her home in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 28days.

Agnes was united in marriage to Quinton Sigmund Nilson on May 24, 1943, at Dakota City, Nebraska. She was employed as a school teacher for many years and enjoyed puzzles, fishing, gardening and bird-watching.

Agnes is survived by two daughters, Cindy Nilson of Evening Shade, Arkansas, and Sharon Wheat and husband Mitchell of Asheville, North Carolina; two sons, Gary Nilson of Elizabeth, Arkansas, and Quinton Gail Nilson and wife Joan of Cochran, Georgia: five grandchildren, Angi, Debbie, Cody, Janice and Tammy; four great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Max and Hayden; three sisters, Marian Vanderham, Donna Vermeer and June VandenBerg; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Quinton Sigmund Nilson; three brothers, Earl, Carroll and Wayne Newman and one sister, Joyce Langerman.

Funeral services will be held at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2014, with Bro. Warren Newman officiating. Family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery at Union, Arkansas, with services entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Memorials preferred to St. Jude.
