Thomas Carnie Reid married Nellie Gifford on March 6, 1948 in Jackson county, Arkansas. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Yellville and helped build what was then known as Buffalo River State Park. He was an Army veteran and served in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was retired from the North Little Rock Health Department, where he served as a sanitarian for 37 1/2 years.
