Ben was the son of Anderson Harbin Payne(1827-1905) and Nancy Jane Weaver Payne(1833 -1883) One of eight boys,his siblings were: John Willis 1852-1920;Samuel Ervin 1855-1910;Joseph S. 1868-1957;Simon Peter 1868-1957;Wiley g 1870-1948 and Noah R. 1879-1957.
He married Eliza Jane Ratledge May 18,1883 in Douglas Missouri.
They had five children. Charles A 1884-1955;Angaline 1886-1979;James Harvey 1889-1967,Robert Franklin 1891-1960 and an infant 1893-1893. It is believed that Eliza died in child birth along with the child.
Ben then married Melissa Wilson Nov 2,1893 and they had three children. Wilburn W.1895-1948;Floyd Russell 1898-1984 and Myrtle E 1906-1979.
