Joe Lee Calloway, 77, of Strong, died Monday morning in a local hospital following a brief illness. Born Feb. 7, 1892 in Union Parish, La., he was the son of J. A. and Addie Reeves Calloway. A resident of Strong for the past 10 years, Mr. Calloway was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Lorane, La. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Naughvell Futch Calloway of Strong; four sons, C. A. Calloway and Huey Wayne Calloway, both of Strong, Victor L. Calloway of Boston, Mass., and Billy Ray Calloway of Crossett; eight daughters, Mrs. H. A. Garner of El Dorado, Mrs. Royal Jones and Mrs. Lester Cantley, both of Crossett; Mrs. Grady Ham of Monticello, Mrs. T. L. Burns of Strong, Mrs. W. T. House of Huntsville, Ala., Mrs. D. E. Smiley of Shreveport, La., and Mrs. Tom Dees of Hermitage; a brother, E. C. Calloway of Hollyridge, La., a sister, Mrs. Vernessa McCormick of Rayville, La.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Clara Moore of San Antonio, Tex., and Mrs. Ruby McCarroll of San Diego, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Strong with the Rev. S. M. Williamson and Dr. Don Harbuck officiating. Interment will follow in the Strong Cemetery under the direction of Youngs. Pallbearers will be Willie Joe Jones, Leroy Jones, R. S. Jones, Harold Cantley, Henry Cantley, Joe Cantley, Jimmy Garner, Ronnie Ham, Len Burns and John Edward Dees. (El Dorado Times - April 22, 1969)
