August 2, 1889 - October 13, 1964
Mrs. Lucy E. Harper, 75, of Strong, died Tuesday morning at a local hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Harper was born Aug. 2, 1889 in New London and was the daughter of Ben F. and Altha Matthews Gillum. Mrs. Harper was a lifelong resident of Union County and a member of the First Methodist Church of Strong. She was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star in Strong. Survivors include her husband, Porter E. Harpers of Strong; a son, Marvis E. Harper of Strong; a daughter, Mrs. T. G. Bratton of Greenville, Miss.; a sister, Mrs. Ora Turbeville of Strong; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Funeral services have been set for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Strong with the Rev. A. L. Chaffin officiating, assisted by the Rev. S. M. Williamson. Burial will follow in Strong Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Pallbearers will be Joe Cannady, C. A. Robertson, Corbit White, E. L. Vestal, Leo Harper and John Lee Jones. The body will be taken to the Harper home at 10:30 a.m. and will remain there until time for final rites. (The El Dorado Times - October 13, 1964)
