TOWNSEND, Mrs. W.W. (BANKS) - We append the following memoriam, written by Eld. Lambert and published in the Mena papers, about Mrs. Townsend, sister of James Banks of Gravette: Mrs. W.W. Townsend, who has been seriously ill for several months, died last Friday at the home of her mother at Hiwasse, near Gravette. Mrs. Townsend was born at Hiwasse in April 1884, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. John Banks, and she being the youngest of six children. There she lived until June 1902 when she was married to Mr. Townsend and moved to Mena. Here they lived until her recent illness. After a lingering fever, from which she was not regaining her strength, she was taken to Hiwasse, where she died Nov. 7, 1913, aged 29 years. The funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday by Eld. C.W. Lambert of Mena and the body was laid to rest in Bethel cemetery near Gravette Saturday afternoon. Those whom this sad death most immediately affect are the faithful and devoted husband, two little boys, Wallace, aged 10 and Raymond, aged 5; the mother, Mrs. S.A. Banks, and a sister, Mrs. C.W. Horton of Hiwasse, and three brothers, J.C. Banks of Mena, W.D. Banks of Hiwasse and Jas. Banks of Gravette. Besides these there are a host of relatives and near friends at Hiwasse, Mena and elsewhere who keenly feel the common loss. In the death of this good woman her childhood home has lost a worthy daughter, the brothers and sisters have lost a sister of whom they were justly proud, the husband and children have lost a priceless jewel - a faithful, affectionate wife and mother, the city of Mena has lost one of its most beloved and honored women, and the Church of Christ has lost a faithful member and loyal supporter.
