FAYETTEVILLE — R.D. McClelland, age 90, of Fayetteville, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. He was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Walnut Grove, Ark., to Charlie and Rose Culver McClelland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, five brothers and one grandson.

He served 39 months in the Air Force in World War II on Tinian Island as an airplane mechanic. He enjoyed singing gospel music, fishing and camping. He was a deacon and charter member of First Baptist Church in Greenland.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Geneva Cheevers McClelland; three daughters, Carolyn Gammons of Springfield, Mo., Beverly Beard of Fayetteville and Sandi Farley of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; also survived by nephews and nieces, several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Family will receive friends and relatives 5 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Moore's Chapel.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Greenland, with Brother Eric Howerton officiating, under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, with interment following at Baptist Ford Cemetery in Greenland.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Willard Walker Hospice Home, Box 325, Fayetteville, AR 72701; or to First Baptist Church, Box 5, Greenland, AR 72737.
