MERCHANT, James Franklin - James Franklin Merchant was born October 25, 1857, died April 15, 1929, aged seventy-one years, 5 months and 20 days. He was born in Loudoun county, Virginia. He moved with his parents to Illinois when a small boy. After a while the family moved to Kansas and later moved to Missouri. While here he was married to Mary Alice Couts on February 26, 1886. There were no children to bless this union. Brother Merchant was converted when a boy and became a member of the M.E. Church, South. He has held his membership at Osage {Council Grove}, Ark. ever since he has been in the county which is over 35 years. Brother Merchant has been a consistent Christian, a loving husband and a good citizen. He leaves a wife, three brothers and a sister to mourn his going. Funeral services were held at the home by Rev. O.M. Campbell, pastor of the Methodist Church of Elm Springs, Ark. Burial was in the Phillips cemetery. O.M. Campbell.
