YATES CENTER, Kan. — Rex Eugene Murdock, 78, of Yates Center died Dec. 8, 2000, at Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kan. He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Cave Springs to Charles Rathburn and Elsie Eichman Murdock. He was an air traffic controller and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a Navy veteran, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Altamaha from 1942-45. He was a member of the Cave Springs Baptist Church, the USS Altamaha Association and was a life member of American Legion Post 274 in Arkansas and VFW Post 1654 in Chanute, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Miller Murdock of the home, to whom be was married Jan. 29, 1968; four sons, David Murdock of Spring Branch, Texas, Steven Ray Eytcheson of Spring, Texas, Franklin Gene Eytcheson and Bruce Roy Eytcheson, both of Yates Center; three daughters, Vicky Little of Yates Center, Glenda Littrell of Huntsville and Cheryl Carlisle of Mattawan, Minn.; one sister, Laverne Murdock of Papuonta, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Campbell Funeral home in Yates Center. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Cemetery at Cave Springs.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made toward the construction of a war memorial for veterans at Yates Center, c/o Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, Kan. 66783.
