SHOOK, Lizzie BOYD - Mrs. J.L. Shook, aged 59 years, died at her home northwest of Healing Springs August 2, 1931. She had been ill for some time. Lizzie Boyd Shook was born in Loudon County, Tennessee Aug. 24, 1872 and came to this county with her parents when nine years old. She had lived in Benton County for half a century. She was married to J.L. Shook Aug. 25, 1889 and joined the Baptist Church when quite a young girl. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Belew of Cave Springs and burial was made by the side of her daughter in the Phillips cemetery. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, John and Edgar of the home and four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Grammar and Mrs. Nola Crank of Bentonville, route 2; Mrs. Ida Harris, Spokane, Wash. and Mrs. Marvin Koen of Shawnee, Okla.

Mrs. James Shook, age 58 years, 11 months and 2 days, died at the family home near Healing Springs at 9:00 o'clock Sunday evening following a lingering illness of almost two years' duration. Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. W.R. Belew, followed by interment in the Phillips cemetery near Osage Mills under the direction of Carpenter Brothers of Gentry. Lizzie Boyd was born in Tennessee in 1872. She came with her parents to this state, settling in Benton county. In 1888 she was united in marriage to James Shook. To this union were born five daughters, one of whom preceded the mother in death. Surviving her are the husband and four daughters: Mrs. John Harris of Cave Springs; Mrs. Sanford Crank of Osage Mills; Mrs. Ernest Grammer of Highfill and a fourth daughter, Reba, of Oklahoma. The sorrowing ones have the sympathy of all in their sad hour.
