Mrs. Bessie L. Wood, 80, of Smackover Route One, died in a local hospital Thursday at 9 a.m. after a long illness. Mrs. Wood was born Mar. 3, 1885 in Elk City, Okla., the daughter of Cornelius and Margaret Patterson Rogers. She had lived in this area for the last 43 years and was a member of Joyce City Baptist Church. Her husband J. H. Wood, died two years ago. Survivors include three sons, Aubin Wood and Ruel Wood, both of Joyce City, and Buck B. Wood of El Dorado; four daughters, Mrs. J. S. Bussell of Houston, Tex., Mrs. Homer Medley of Columbia, Mo., and Mrs. E. W. Dick and Mrs. Iola Lowery, both of El Dorado; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Cowley of Joyce City and Mrs. Eva Gilson of Baton Rouge, La.; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rumph Mortuary with the Rev. Ross Williams and Rev. Floyd Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens by Rumph. The body will remain at the mortuary until after the funeral. (The El Dorado Times - September 9, 1965)
