Driver Killed In Accident On Hwy. 68

HUNTSVILLE (Special) — Vernon Eugene Willis, 18-year-old Springdale high school student, was killed last night when his car skidded into a one and one-half ton truck on Hwy. 68, about three miles west of here.

State Trooper Carlton Brown, who investigated, said Willis apparently lost control of his car while attempting to pass another vehicle and skidded sideways into the oncoming truck. Kenneth White, 31, of Gentry, was driver of the truck. He suffered only minor injuries, Gene Kitchens, 18, also of Gentry, a passenger in the truck, was hospitalized at the Huntsville hospital for cuts and bruises.

Willis was born July 22, 1944, in Mossville, and was the son of Walter M. and Ida Watson Willis, of Springdale. He was a senior at Springdale High School and was a member of the People's Mission Church.

Surviving in addition to the parents are two brothers, Earl and Denver Willis, and one sister, Inavern Willis, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Willis, of Murry; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Annie Watson, Springdale.

Funeral will be held at 2. p.m. Tuesday at the People's Mission Church, with burial, under the direction of Callison-Sisco Funeral Home, in Friendship Cemetery.
