J.K. Barnes, residing a few miles northeast of town, died suddenly Thursday of last week of heart trouble. Mr. Barnes had not been feeling well for a few days but had been up and around. He ate his dinner Thursday and getting up from the table complained of feeling worse and lay down on the bed. He soon expired. Funeral services were held at the Accident school house Saturday, conducted by Eld. C.C. Winters, pastor of the First Baptist Church and the remains were interred in Bluff Cemetery in Springdale. Deceased was about 71 years of age and had resided in this section for a number of years, coming here from Madison County. His wife died something like a year ago. He is survived by nine children, five daughters and four sons. Since the age of twenty years Mr. Barnes had been a member of the Baptist Church and was also a member of the G.A.R. He was a good citizen, esteemed and respected by all who knew him.

J.K. Barnes was born in Brown County, Ohio April 20th, 1841. He died at his home near Springdale, Ark. May 2, 1912, age 71 years and 12 days. He leaves nine children and three sisters to mourn his death. The children are: Mrs. Gertie Harp, Cedarville, Kan.; Mrs. Anna Marrs, Long, N. Mexico; Mrs. Ruth Patrick, Lowell, Ky.; H.D. Barnes, M.A. Barnes, P.M. Barnes and Mrs. W.C. Rainey of Huntsville, Ark.; J.J. Barnes and Mrs. Fannie Rubottom of Springdale, Ark. Two of the sisters are living in Iowa and one was living with him at the time of his death. He made a profession of faith in Christ when but 20 years of age. He joined the Baptist church and lived a faithful Christian life until the day of his death. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Lowell, Ark. where he died. He was a good neighbor, a faithful husband and a kind father. His companion preceded him just a little over thirteen months. He enlisted in the Federal army in 1861 at the age of 20 and performed the duties of a good soldier. He belonged to the cavalry of Iowa. His funeral was conducted by C.C. Winters, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Springdale, Ark., after which his remains were laid to rest in the Bluff cemetery of Springdale to wait the resurrection morn. His suffering was but a few hours until death claimed his own.
