William A. “Jake” Sims, 96 of Greenbrier, went to be with his Lord on January 20, 2012. Born in Springhill, AR on February 25, 1915, he was a son to the late Roy W. and Mattie Lee (Rotten) Sims.
Mr. Sims was a veteran of WWII, owner of Jake Sims Grocery, and former Secretary and Chairman of the Faulkner County Democratic Central Committee for 38 years. Mr. Sims loved the Lord and his church, he was Choir Director at Springhill Baptist Church for over 40 years, a Deacon for over 60 years, Sunday school teacher for 50 years, a member of the Springhill Quartet for 15 years and had perfect Sunday School attendance for 31 years. Mr. Sims was also preceded in death by his wife Hattie Powers Sims, sister, Ruth Woodruff and husband Raymond Woodruff, and an infant sister
Although Jake and Hattie had no biological children, Jerry Clifton and wife Christy were considered their children. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, his church family at Springhill Baptist, a special cousin Mary Watts, and other extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Springhill Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Stephenson and Bro. Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery with Randy Roberts, Johnny Day, Jim Day, Robert Arnold, Bob Abrams and Billy Joe Abrams serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Roberts, Carl Karber, Charles Tapley, Rick McCollum, J.B. Mills, Eugene Carter and Jimmy Covington, the Deacons of Springhill Baptist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School class. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, at Roller McNutt in Greenbrier.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Springhill Baptist Church Building Fund.
