Emma “Jean” Garrett, 83, of Conway, went home to be with the Lord February 1, 2012. She was born September 4, 1928, in Conway, to the late Jesse Roy and Emma (Purifoy) Johnston. She was very active in her church, working with the women’s mission, teaching Sunday School, sang in the choir and active in the homebound visitation program. In her retirement she was quite active in the foster grandparent program. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one brother, Charles Johnston and two sisters, Betty McDaniels and Sarah Groh.
Jean is survived by two sons, Bill Garrett (Lynn) and David Garrett, all of Conway; one daughter, Gloria Stripling of Greenbrier; four brothers, Buddy Johnston, Jim Johnston, and Richard Johnston, all three of Greenbrier and Lindy Johnston of Little Rock; one sister, Juanita Coney of Greenbrier; five grandchildren, April Kinley, John Garrett, Rachel McVay, Chad Garrett and Jeff Irby; and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, in Conway. Jean’s funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012, in the Chapel of Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, in Conway, with Bro. Gilbert Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery.
