J.C. “Cate” Southerland, of Springhill, AR passed away at his home on May 15, 2008. Born in Conway, AR on March 31, 1937 he was a son to the late George E. Southerland, Sr. and Mabel (Davis) Southerland. He retired from the Conway School system, where he taught auto-mechanics, he had worked as a mechanic and farmer. Cate was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed being with his family, camping, hunting and fishing and was of the Baptist faith. His wife Linda (Kirby) Southerland and his previously mentioned parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his three daughters: Kim Goss, Lisa Holliman (Sammy), Carol Henderson (Carl) all of Greenbrier; five grandchildren: Megan and Rachel Goss, Jeremy and Jared Holliman and Casey Henderson; one great grandchild: Baylee Holliman; three brothers: George Southerland, Jr. of Little Rock, Harroll Southerland of Pleasant Valley and Johnny Southerland of Conway; two sisters: Maureen Screeton of Hot Springs Village and Ann DeSalvo of FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008 at Springhill Baptist Church, with Bro. Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating. Interment will be at Springhill Cemetery with his grandchildren and sons-in-law serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Malik, Harvey Presley, and Dwight Love. Memorial may be made in his name to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Research Hospital. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. on Sunday, May 18, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier.
