Ora Mae Kirby 93, of Conway died Monday, January 22, 2007. She was born October 24, 1913, to the late James and Lizzie (Scott) Beene of Pleasant Valley. She married Howard Kirby on June 6, 1935.
She and Howard owned and operated Kirby Grocery in the Morgan / Maumelle area until his death in 1972. Ora Mae continued to operate the grocery store until her retirement in 1984 when she moved to Conway, leaving behind a host of friends and loyal customers.
She was a long time member of Cedar Heights Baptist Church in North Little Rock and then Second Baptist Church in Conway.
Until recent years, she enjoyed a healthy, long life which allowed her to see five generations.
Ora Mae is survived by three sons: Royce (Anne) Kirby of Conway, Vernon (Betty) and Curtis (Cindy) Kirby of North Little Rock. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Debi (David) Avra and Traci Turner of Conway; Donny Kirby of Gravesville; Dianne (Randy) Huffstickler of Tyler, TX; Terry (Heather) Brian and Marisa Kirby of North Little Rock; Great-grandchildren, Allison Avra, Peyton and Hailey Turner of Conway, Ashley Avra of Fayetteville; Tanner, Bailey and Abby Kirby of North Little Rock; Beau Kirby and Lacey Betts of Greenbrier; great-great-grandchildren, McKayla and Reece Betts of Greenbrier; sisters, Hattie Davis of Wooster, Catherine Clouette of Little Rock and her twin sister Ola Fay Woodworth of Greenbrier and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clinton, Bill and Lewis Beene, and a sister, Mary Eunice Burroghs.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to her caregiver Loretta Seay, the staff at St. Andrew’s Nursing Home where she spent her last few months, and the staff of Odyssey Healthcare.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Roller-McNutt Chapel, Conway. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Gary Burroughs, J.R. Burroughs, Jimmie Lee Beene, Ricky Beene, Dalton Davis, Billy Doyle Kirby, Jimmy Clouette, Carroll Thrash, Don Carter, Bobby Kirby, Ed Troutman, and Grady Thrash.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Odyssey Healthcare of Little Rock.
