Earl McGehee, age 70, of Conway, Arkansas was born June 7, 1935, in the Lollie Community, (near Mayflower) to Earl McGehee, Sr. and Lilla Sawrie McGehee. He passed away on March 17, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years: Nina Reynolds McGehee. Also surviving are two daughters: Lea Ann Smith and her husband Sam, Christina McGehee, two grandchildren: Clark Samuel and Kayley Rebecca Smith all of Conway, one sister: Margaret Ann Goff and her husband Jim, and two nephews: Eddie and Steve Goff.
Earl graduated from UCA in 1961 went on to do graduate work at the University of South Carolina and obtained a Phd. in Mathematics from the U of A in 1970.
Before entering college he served in the US Army for three years, most of the time in Alaska. Earl retired from UCA in 1998 after a 33-year career as professor of Mathematics and Director of Computer Services. He was instrumental in establishing fiber-optic cable for computer use campus wide. He had a love for teaching and was recently noted to be tutoring one of his nurses while a patient in UAMS.
He served as consultant to the Mid Delta Community Services in Helena, Arkansas getting their operations computerized. He provided technical support until his death. He also did some adjunct teaching at the UACC at Morrilton after retiring from UCA.
Next to loving his God, he loved his family with deep devotion. He was a member of the University Church of Christ where he was often moved to tears by the beautiful singing.
Earl was an un-assuring, gentle yet strong man always ready to help where he could. He was a thoughtful sensitive loving husband, dad, granddad, and brother.
Funeral services will be Monday, 1:00 pm, March 20th, at the University Church of Christ in Conway officiated by Mr. Dusty Rush with burial in Springhill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 pm at Roller McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501.327.7727). On line guest register: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
