BELLA VISTA — Don Leslie "Bud" Vendl, 84, of Bella Vista died Jan. 1, 2002, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born July 3, 1917, in Cicero, Ill., to Frank and Elsie Benes Vendl. He worked at Maramont Corp. in Chicago, Ill., for 20 years and owned and operated Gary (Ind.) Spring Co. for 16 years and was employed at the Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind., for 12 years. He moved to Bella Vista in August 1985 from Merrillville, Ind. He was a member and deacon at St. Joan Arc Catholic Church in Gary for one year, a member and deacon of St. Bernard Catholic Church for four years and a member and deacon of St. Stephens Catholic Church for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice "Zila" Vendl of Bella Vista, to whom he was married 60 years; two sons, Ronald L. Vendl and wife Linda of Valparaiso and Michael J. Vendl of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Mike Sinkler and Monsignor Richard Oswald officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Stephens Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1300 Northwest "J" St, Bentonville, 72712, or a favorite charity.
