Louie L. Wesson, 92, of Little Rock died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Baptist Hospital. He was born July 6, 1917 to the late Will and Susie Wesson. He was one of six children born to this family. He married Mattie Almond on July 11, 1936. They were married for 62 years before she died in 1998.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jewel Fitzgerald and four brothers, Warner, Wilburn, Leonard and Garland Wesson; an infant son, Kenneth Ray Wesson and his son-in-law, David Tidwell.
He is survived by daughter, Barbara Tidwell; grandson, Benny Tidwell; granddaughter, Rejeana Albert and her husband, Cameron; five great grandchildren, Terra and her husband, Josh Green, Nikki and her husband, Daniel Geraldson, Caleb, Hannah, Rebecca Albert; four great-great grandchildren, Hadyn, Alyssa and J.D. Green and Ashley Geraldson of Little Rock and Conway; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Louie was a bi-vocational Baptist pastor in southwest Arkansas for more than 40 years. He pastored New Home near Gurdon, Fellowship near Nashville and Bluff Springs, Mt. Olive, Missionary Grove and Laneburg in Nevada County. He had a Sunday morning radio program on KTPA in Prescott from December 1959 to March 1993.
He worked for Logan Grocery Company in Prescott from 1942 to 1982, when he retired. The last 25 years of that time was spent in outside sales.
In the mid 1940’s, Louie organized a quartet consisting of himself, his wife Mattie, Neita Almond, Mildred Thrasher and Stacy Thrasher. Mary Margaret Ellis and his daughter played piano for them. During the mid 1940’s and 1950’s they sang for over 400 funerals in the South Arkansas area.
He and his wife moved to Little Rock in 1993. At the time of his death he was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Bryant.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010 at Laneburg Baptist Church near Prescott. Interment to follow at Laneburg Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
