Died February 23, 1847
The four memorial panels on his monument read as follows:
To the memory of Captain Andrew Randolph Porter who gallantly fell at the head of his company of Arkansas Volunteer Cavalry at the Battle of Buena Vista, Mexico on the 23rd day of February A.D. 1847 while his regiment was charging the lines of Mexican cavalry commanded by General Torregon.
He fell at an early age in defence of his Country's honor and rights, just at the moment when victory had perched itself on the standard of his regiment, when the blossoms of hope were fresh in his bosom, and the buds of the land were bright on his brow.
A Native of Lincoln County, North Carolina, an adapted citizen of Arkansas, a lawyer by profession, possessing a noble, brave,a and generous heart, and a mind of the finest order, he bade fain to become one of Arkansas' most eminent sons.
As a tribute to his memory and in admiration of his virtues and patriotism this monument is erected by the citizens of this place and the Masonic fraternity of which he was a bright member.
