Leo Edward Ray Sr 80, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday September 14, 2011 in a local hospital.
He was the owner and operator of Modern Masonry Construction Company for over 30 years. He was a masonry contractor for many area churches, fire stations, schools and business's in the Fort Smith, Fayetteville-Springdale and Eastern Oklahoma area. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was the mason for the stones on the Fort Smith Commemorative Walkway. He was awarded a stone in his name for his masonry. Leo raised quarter horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and an avid horse racing fan and fisherman, but most of all he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie O'Dell and Nola Evans Ray and his sister Frances Ray Pendleton.
Funeral services are at 11:00AM Saturday September 17, 2011 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Steep Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Nancy (Didier) Ray of the home; one son Leo Edward Ray Jr of Fort Smith, Arkansas; five daughters, Carol Blaschke and her husband James Brickey of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Andrea Lyons and her husband Chris of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gina Rogers and her husband Ronnie W of Norman, Oklahoma, Sonya Mendelsohn and her husband Larry of Little Rock, Arkansas and Michelle Spears and her husband Mark of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three sisters, Ora Lee Spaulding of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Delores Wright of Buena Park, CA and Judy Hunter of Fort Smith, Arkansas; three brothers, Charles and Leonard Ray both of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Ronald Ray of Van Buren, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren, Ben and Andrew Balachke, Emily Lyons Wiltshire, C. Bartony Lyons, Collier B. Lyons, Olivia Lyons, Natalie Rogers Heinrich, Nancy Rogers Crosby, Katy Mendelsohn, Jacqueylne Mendelsohn Hall, Mary A. Mendelsohn, Max Mendelsohn, Parker Ray, Hannah Ray, Sunny Ray, Melissa Spears Whilley, Micah Spears Southerland, Margot Spears Harris, Mis Spears and Sophie Spears and 9 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Jim Blackwood, Damon Bercher, Charles Ray Jr, Bobby Ray, Jack Evans and Randall Ray.
