Loraine (Echols) Newman, 86, of Conway and Morrilton, widow of Bill Collins Newman, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008. She and her husband owned and operated the Family Shoe Store in Morrilton for 30 years.
She was born in Long Prairie, near Monticello, Arkansas, on July 1, 1922, to the late James Rufus and Eva Lily (Peterson) Echols. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway.
Survivors include a son, Ron Newman (Jane) of Nathrop, Colorado, two daughters, Nancy Acre (Glen) of Maumelle, AR and Kay Trotter (Roger) of Fayetteville, AR; four grandchildren, Ashley Mosely of Little Rock, Lesley Skinner (Adam) of Fayetteville, Marshall Trotter of Savannah, GA, and Kim Humphreys (Doug) of Van Buren, five great-grandchildren, Luke Mosely, Katherine Skinner, and Laura Megan, Logan and Lilly Humphreys, one sister, Harriet Woodell of Monroe, Louisiana, three brothers, Dr. Robert Echols (Betty) of San Angelo, Texas, Tommy Echols of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Norman Echols (Jan) of Sacramento, California, and sister-in-law Mary Jacobson (Frank) of Grand Junction, Colorado. Her extended family included her caregivers during her illness, Melissa and Duncan Hight of Conway and their staff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, James Echols, and three sisters, Cornelia Posey, Virginia Shiras, and Katherine Barger.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec 20, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway with Rev. Ron Grigsby officiating. Burial will be at Republican Cemetery at Greenbrier. Pallbearers will be Roger Trotter, Marshall Trotter, Adam Skinner, Glen Acre, Doug Humphreys and Chad Dodson.
Visitation will be at noon, Saturday, preceding the funeral at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Republican Community Cemetery.
