John Patrick Black, Jr. passed from this life July 3, 2009. “Pat” was born May 24, 1947, the son of John and Wilma Black of Conway, Arkansas.
Pat lived his childhood in Damascus and Conway, receiving his education from the Conway School Systems and the University of Central Arkansas. In addition to his Bachelor’s of Education, Pat earned a Master’s of Education in Administration. His entire career focused on the needs of the mentally and physically impaired. He was previously employed by the Baxter County Day Service Center, Mountain Home, Arkansas. While there, he successfully developed an Independent Living Facility for adults and a supervised work program for the mentally retarded. While working in Mountain Home, Pat was recognized as the Outstanding Director for the State of Arkansas and he served on the City Council. Pat subsequently taught and coordinated a special education program in East Glacier, Montana and lived his final years of life in Conway Arkansas. Pat was a member of Robinson & Center Church of Christ, where he was baptized at the age of ten.
In addition to his work, Pat loved camping, boating, fishing, and motorcycling.
He is survived by his mother, Wilma of the home, his son, John (Becky)Black of Springfield, Mo, his daughter April (Louis) Krenn of Springfield, Mo, and five grandchildren, Morgan, Wesley, Weston, Kate, and Ava. He was preceded in death by his father, John Patrick Black, Sr.
A service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, immediately followed by burial at Martinville Cemetery in Martinville, AR. Visitation will be from noon until 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the Baxter County Day Service Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas and/ or Hospice in Conway, Arkansas.
